27th Meeting of the Phased Array Subcommittee of DGZfP – Setting the Course for the Future
On October 29, 2024, the Phased Array Subcommittee of the DGZfP (German Society for Non-Destructive Testing) convened at the Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung GmbH in Duisburg. The meeting brought together 11 participants – 8 onsite and 3 via Teams.
A special moment of the meeting was the farewell of Hans Rieder from the leadership of the subcommittee after more than 11 years. His significant contributions, especially in the development and completion of the Handbook for Material Testing with Ultrasonic Phased Arrays, remain unforgettable. As a token of appreciation, the participants presented him with a bottle holder shaped like a sailboat. While Hans will continue to contribute to the subcommittee, he looks forward to spending more time with his wife and his sailing hobby.
New Leadership Elections:
- Chair: Andreas Mück (SONOTEC GmbH)
- Deputy Chair: Till Schmitte (Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung GmbH)
The meeting also focused on key topics:
- Purpose of the DGZfP’s Phased Array Specialist Course
- Conventional Testing vs. Phased Array – What Role Will PA Play in the Future?
- Can PA Replace Other Testing Technologies?
Resolution:
An amendment to Directive US03 was adopted. Due to low demand, no new edition will be produced. However, the content remains valid and important.
The next meeting will take place on March 20, 2025, at Waygate Technologies in Hürth.
